Hi there,

Something similar has happened to me and I found that it was either due to my hands being wet and somehow some droplet of water had entered the physical sensor. After a while the water probably got evaporated and it worked normally again.

It might be due towater/sweat or something like that, or it could also mean that the connection of the sensor to the board has become loose and you might need to connect it once again.

It could also be some software issue, which could be rectified with the latest updates.

But in most cases it’s the first reason.

You don’t have to worry. Also it would have been better if you have mentioned the model number ,so we could understand if the sensor is a physical one, or the under display optical fingerprint scanner. (In that case it might also be because of some dirt on your fingers, or on the screen that prevented the phone from reading your fingers correctly)

There are two possibilities for your phone to not register your finger print

  1. Your finger prints maybe damaged if not damaged then clean ur finger print with wet cloth and try again
  2. Or your phone finger print is scratched badly that even if you’re trying to register ur finger it’s not possible for the phone to recognise it properly due to the scratches in which case u need to replace the finger print or their is very slightly or small chance of software that’s causing the problem u only know if u reset the phone but that’s 10% chance out of 100%

Why do I have to reset my fingerprint on my phone every time it discharges and gets switched off?

What do you mean by reset?

Is it enrolling the fingerprint again?

If so, it shouldn’t be the case. If your smartphone runs out of power then it doesn’t affect the internal data.

If it is the case then these might me the problems:

  • Fingerprint sensor might not be clean. This happened to me before where the display shows “cannot detect the sensor”. After cleaning, it worked. So try to clean the fps with a cloth.
  • Are you using a Custom ROM? My smartphone runs on Custom ROM and it is very common that there will be problems in the OS. In some Custom ROMs I faced this issue.
  • If you are in Stock ROM then try “Factory reset”. We have no idea what’s wrong with that (hardware or software) so all we can do is Reset.

If nothing works then visit your smartphone’s customer-service store (I know, not now after the lockdown period).

If a phone user dies, does his fingerprint still work?

Yes and also No, It depends upon the fingerprint sensor, and technologies used, and the situation too.

Behind No:

All human bodies have some micro magnitude voltage passing through them, and the capacitive technology uses it to sense touch. In conditions where the tissues on finger loses it’s charge (Death may cause this to happen), the finger won’t work on capacitive fingerprint sensors and fail it (and also on capacitive displays too) as the capacitive sensor works on the little electrical charge running through your skin.

Along with that, if Radio Frequency Reader is also involved then it will fail to find any living tissues, leaving the phone locked for good as they don’t respond to the dead layer of skin, they only read the living tissue underneath. RF produces an extremely precise image of your fingerprint, which means a dead finger or a prosthesis is completely useless.

Behind Yes:

The consumable Gelatin can be used to fool these sensors. The gelatin has many of the same conductive properties as human skin and can fool more sophisticated readers designed to sniff out inorganic “fingers.”

This can be used on dead man’s fingers to make a fake fingerprint.
